The author of this guidebook holds a degree from a well-known West Coast university where he pursued advanced study in Mediterranean intellectual history. His first book was published in New York over twenty-five years ago, and since then he has written several travel guides. He lives in Berkeley, California, and is occasionally visited by his college attending daughter who has been, in his words, "the light of my life for twenty-two wonder filled years."
